It is with deep and abiding faith that we pay tribute to our beloved wife, mother and devoted servant of God, Wendy Larraine Williams. She was born in 1954 and she entered eternal rest on July 28, 2025 surrounded by her loving family.
Wendy was raised in Flint, Michigan, where she attended Martin Elementary School, Holmes Junior School, and later graduated from Flint Northwestern High School. Wendy was an excellent student and excelled in advanced classes throughout elementary and high school. She received a scholarship to the University of Michigan, where she earned her undergraduate degree, followed by a master’s degree in finance from Atlanta University.
Wendy’s resourcefulness showed early: often frustrated by her father’s delay in providing her weekly allowance, she started working at fourteen. She was a lifeguard at Northwestern, worked in the gym’s locker room, assisted with film processing at Fotomat, and learned to sew her own clothes before heading to college. After graduate school, Wendy interned at Corning Glassworks in New York before beginning a 34-year branch management career at Manufacturer’s Bank in Detroit. Post-retirement, she taught t’ai chi classes at all levels until her passing. She found purpose and joy in all her endeavors and especially in service to others.
Wendy was a member of Oak Grove AME Church for several years, participating in worship and service activities. She served on the trustee board for multiple terms, sometimes remaining on the ballot even when she considered stepping back. At the time of her passing, she served as financial secretary on the trustee board and was appointed Assistant Pro Tem in recognition of her strong management abilities and readiness to assume additional responsibilities. Wendy also conducted classes at Oak Grove, utilizing the Financial Peace University course outline to provide church members with effective money management strategies. Her commitment to Oak Grove Church was consistently demonstrated through her service and leadership. Throughout her life, she exemplified humility, love and grace.
She was preceded in death by her father, Fredie Williams.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory; her beloved husband of 43 years, Michael Chastine, son, Nicholas Chastine (Erica Murray) and mother, Shirley Williams, brother, Michael Williams (Anquinette), sister, Jacqueline Williams, nephews, LeMarcus Williams (Larissa) and Mychal Williams, loving cousin, Mark K. Williams, Sisters-in-law, Nancy Lyons and Robin Jamison and a host of other relatives.
”I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith”. – 2 Timothy 4:7
