Lawrence “Mickey” John Ramsey was born on June 25th, 1936, to the loving home of Judge Ramsey and Fannie Stoudamire of River Rouge, Michigan. He and his three siblings; Larimer Ramsey, Amelia Ann Bankhead, and Olivia Celeste Colston were raised in a jovial Christian home and were saved as children. All preceding him in death.
Lawrence attended River Rouge High School, where he was an outstanding track, football player and developed his love for bowling.
In 1965, he met and married Barbara Jean Harrison, who preceded him in death in 2011. The two were happily married for 46 years, and from their union, they raised Anthony Scott and Nicole Danielle, later raising granddaughter Lexus Ramsey. The couple enjoyed entertaining guests, hosting social club events, and gardening.
During the early period of his marriage, Lawrence was blessed with the opportunity to become one of the first African American firemen for the River Rouge Fire Department. He thrived in his role as a dedicated public servant, rising to the rank of Captain and simultaneously working at Outer Drive Hospital as an orderly retiring after 32 years.
He was passionate about many things, family and friends included, but also for his community. If someone needed help and it was in his power to do so, he would never hesitate, whether it was money, time, or a ride home. He went out of his way to help mentor many young men who needed fatherly support.
In 2013, Lawrence reconnected with his high school friend and former Junior Prom date Jeanette Bobo. Their relationship quickly rekindled and in 2014 the two were blissfully married. They spent their time enjoying each other, life, family, and traveling.
Mickey’s memory lives on through his loving wife Jeanette. His children: Anthony, Marvella Ramsey; Nicole Ramsey, stepchildren Jeannice, Hamid Samani; Charletta Fairrer, Gregory Fairrer (decd).
