Celebration of Life

With hearts filled with both sorrow and gratitude, we celebrate the beautiful life of Gladys Maelee Williams, who peacefully entered eternal rest on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, in Fontana, California, at the age of 89.

Born on March 8, 1937, in Saint Augustine, Florida, Gladys was lovingly raised in Georgia by her grandmother, Laura Fuller, whose love, faith, and strength helped shape the remarkable woman she became.

In her twenties, she moved to Detroit, Michigan, where she built a life defined by hard work, strong faith, enduring friendships, and love for her family.

For 30 dedicated years, Gladys faithfully was employed at General Motors, retiring in June 1999. She took great pride in her work and was blessed to enjoy 27 years of retirement, spending precious time with the family she loved so dearly.

A woman of deep faith, Gladys was a faithful member of the Truth and Tried Usher Board at Corinthian Baptist Church in Hamtramck, Michigan. Serving the Lord and caring for others were central to the way she lived her life, including her participation with Willing Worker.

During the eight years she lived in California with her daughter, Gladys experienced many joyful moments. She attended adult daycare, where she celebrated her 88th birthday. In addition, she enjoyed beach bonfires, walks in local parks, music concerts, and LA Fairs. One of her favorite things to do was travel to places such as San Diego, San Jose, Palm Springs, and more.

One of Gladys’ greatest pleasures was accompanying her daughter to the roller skating rink. She loved watching the skaters glide across the floor while the music played. Before long, she would be snapping her fingers—the loudest in the building—placing her hands on her hips, and happily dancing with anyone who asked her. Her energy and love for music brought smiles to everyone around her.

Gladys also had a wonderful sense of humor. Whenever someone asked her name, she would proudly smile and say, “Gladys…without the Pips!” It was one of her signature sayings and perfectly reflected her fun-loving personality.

Family was the greatest joy of Gladys’ life. She especially treasured becoming a great-grandmother and proudly gave herself the name “Gigi.” Her family eagerly anticipated her delicious home cooking, especially her famous macaroni and cheese casserole, prepared with love for every gathering.

To know Gladys was to love her. Her home was always filled with warmth, laughter, delicious food, and unconditional love. She had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel welcome. Her beautiful spirit, unwavering faith, kindness, and generosity touched countless lives. Truly, we were blessed to have her in our lives.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory her devoted daughter, Linda Brown; her son, James Traylor; her stepsons, Larry Williams and Alvin Williams; her beloved grandson, James Franklin Brown; her cherished granddaughter-in-law, Angela Brown; her precious great-grandchildren, James Franklin Brown Jr. and Amari James Brown; her treasured twin nieces, Denise Andrews and Tonya Andrews; along with many other nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.

Gladys was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eugene Williams. Although her family deeply mourns her passing, they find comfort in knowing she is now at peace and resting in the loving presence of the Lord. Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and her love will remain in the hearts of all who knew her forever.
